How are the greens constructed?

Typical backyard greens may be constructed on a contoured concrete slab, a compacted crushed stone base, or a modular component base. Indoor or portable greens are constructed on a modular component base.

What's an average size of a putting green and how many cups does it have?

Custom in-ground greens usually range between 300 sf and 2500 sf,  although each green is designed to fit in proportion to the site.  Most greens have at least 3 cups with as many as 9 on a large green.  Portable units range between 40 sf and 300 sf with 2-6 cups.

Are the greens flat or do they have "break" in them?

All putting greens are contoured for drainage and the realism of putting on a natural green.  The superior quality of the turf allows breaking putts to hold their true line even as they slow down when approaching the hole.  The green speed will consistently "stimp" at 10 1/2.

Can I hit shots onto the green without damaging the surface?

Yes, the impact of balls hitting the green will not affect the durable nylon turf fibers.  Even driving a lawn tractor or deer walking on the green will not affect the way the green looks or putts.

Do you have a kit that I can buy to build my own green?

Yes, the TourLinks system is simple and available in pre-packaged kits. Custom in-ground greens should be installed by trained and experienced professionals.

Is "nylon" putting turf a sand-filled turf?

No, unlike sand-filled polypropylene turf, nylon turf does not require sand.  It may be applied for adjusting the speed or feel of the green if desired, but the twisted and knitted nylon fibers have a resilient memory that will not mat down over time. Since sand is not required it also makes it ideal for indoor applications.

What is sand-filled polypropylene turf?

Sand-filled polypropylene turf is a material available in a variety of pile heights, colors, and textures that we recommend in construction of target greens, tee boxes, and the "fringe" of a putting green.  The nature of the fiber requires sand to support the fibers and frequent brushing and rolling are needed to maintain a consistent putting surface. Sand-filled greens are usually less expensive and hold approach shots well, but are higher maintenance and lesser quality putting greens.
